Skall Studio is an approachable Danish designer brand founded in 2014 by the sisters Julie and Marie Skall—way before conscious fashion became a common word in the industry. With fair production, fur and leather free collections and classic styles in natural fibres made to last, Skall Studio is known as a self-expressive and value-based brand.

Their website touts embracing a progressive point-of-view and approach, that values natural and recyclable mono-materials, animal welfare and quality craftsmanship, while positioning their designs as a made-to-last closet capsule staple that is fresh while at the same time evoking classic Scandinavian minimalism. While fashion editors have declared the end of “quiet minimalism”, Skall still has the knack to pull it off timeless, effortless style that makes its price-points accessible with key pieces that easily mix-and-match. Their flattering silhouettes are also easily considered investment pieces—almost discarding trendiness that would be contradictory to their sustainable initiatives.

The brand is celebrating their 10 year anniversary and this season, the designers took inspiration from and celebrated their muse: English designer and fashion legend Loulou de la Falaise (an original muse for YSL). While Loulou is known for her maximalist style, it illuminates the juxtaposition of Skall Studio’s minimalism and styling — both certainly know how to rock a peasant blouse.

But it wasn’t just their muses aesthetic that inspired the Skall sisters when conceiving their namesake brand’s SS25 collection. “We love Loulou de la Falaise for her personality and unique sense of style,” says Julie. “To us, style is what makes fashion interesting. Great style is personal and Loulou is a great example of that.”

Vogue Scandinavia makes a great point that when it comes to the memorable brand, “it’s hard not to think of the effortlessly stylish women who wear it.” And to celebrate their 10-year anniversary, Marie knows their collection celebrates “Clean lines, classic and timeless design, feminine, yet casual silhouettes and intrigued details.” The collection is aptly called 'Viva Skall'.

Loulou de la Falaise’s design influence makes sense for the brand—lacey embroidery, puffy sleeves and waisty feminine silhouettes.

“The styling is very feminine and we’ve worked with a specific focus on the waist,” says Julie, pointing to the woven belts used to cinch in more billowing or A-line silhouettes. Even beloved Skall signatures, like the chore-like Gaby jacket, rendered for the season in organic cotton, gets a feminine update by way of a nipped in waist. Elsewhere, a new cotton-linen (“We don’t use silk, but we think it has the same exclusive look,” notes Marie) brings that sense of stealth wealth to easy skirts and blouses.

As the models circled around artsy objects to Sandrini’s 'Occhi su di me' (an Italian cover of Billy Idol’s 'Eyes Without a Face') curated by the Skall sisters in their cool, boho looks, one is reminded of how the Skall-Scandi-cool-girl look so easily flows. “Looking back on how we started 10 years ago, we feel both humble and grateful,” says Marie. “Skall Studio is founded on some strong values – and the fact that we have been able to stick to those values while growing means the world to us.”
