Pearl Octopuss.y is the buzziest brand of Oslo Runway—and it comes with quite a story. Designer Cathrine Børter had been working as a women’s wear designer in Oslo for almost a decade, until she started making her own jewellery.

“I instantly fell in love with the process and the feeling of working so detailed with my hands. Suddenly I just couldn’t stop doing it. It’s my own personal space where I get to create things I find beautiful - as well as it is really satisfying to make something real. To create an object in your hands.“

Pearl Octopuss.y started out as a Norwegian jewelry and accessories brand founded by designer Cathrine Børter in 2018. The brand is known for it’s immersive visual universe centered around the bold and eccentric—with statement-making pieces, often characterized by intricate beading, pearls, crystals, and a blend of playful and avant-garde aesthetics.

Cathrine Børter, creative director and founder, started Pearl Octopuss.y as a way to express her love for craftsmanship and experimentation with materials. Her unique approach, combining elements of traditional jewelry-making with a contemporary, edgy twist, helped the brand quickly gain recognition in the fashion world, with the desire to master the balance between minimalism and maximalism.

The name "Pearl Octopuss.y" itself is a reflection of the brand's whimsical and unconventional ethos. It encapsulates the juxtaposition of luxury (pearls) with a sense of humor and rebellion (the unusual "Octopuss.y" spelling).

Pearl Octopuss.y has now expanded into international markets and became a favorite among influencers, stylists, and editors. Their SS25 show at Oslo Runway has been declared the highlight of the fashion week.

Pearl Octopuss.y's runway show entitled “Eclipse” literally eclipsed all expectations, presenting the brand's dazzling jewellery, sweeping fringe and twisted tailoring in shimmering light to illuminate the embellishments, rhinestones and metallic accents—all handcrafted in the brand’s Oslo studio.

Utilizing vintage tailoring and upcycled garments, the brand highlights how a single piece of jewellery can utterly transform an outfit. With baroque pearls, rhinestones and shimmering glistening twists, Brøter noted that she still wanted to "to keep the brooch as the main course”. The elevated looks were dripping with high fashion glamour typically seen at New York Fashion Week, Milan or Paris.

Staged in a film studio, set against the dramatic red backdrop of a simulated red-solar phenomenon, the 'Eclipse' ready-to-wear collection was comprised of structured silhouettes, building on the brand's trademark broad-shouldered blazers and fanciful fringe. The brand evolved from its usual repertoire with bedazzled hoodies and show-stopping sweatshirts.

Whether it was the sensuous sweep of fringe, eye-catching accoutrements, or the dazzling chain-mail halter neck top – this collection was the perfect way to close this year's Oslo Runway SS25 programme.
